The life of
_____.
after each savage hysterical episode so uncommon with us,
amy mother would sniff the air and murmur
nurse would you look at the upstairs fire
i smell burning
something’s alight somewhere
but a red coal never was found
or jet of gas scorching dry board or
paintwork beginning to melt
and too young was i that nursery time to guess,
what smoking subjective fire she really felt,
nowadays i know quite well,
from hers they came
and my Father’s mouth when the hot tongues crackled and spat,
but what mattered then was a trick of dodging flame,
and keeping some breath alive in the heat of it
i have it still
that inbred dodging trick,
but always when fire descept
i see them turning my parents,
to name elsewhere their sour fire reek
and touch myself and know what’s really burning.
the poem above ,"the smell of burning", is the inspiration for our piece. a poem based upon one childs unhappiness, and blameful attitude towards their parents for destorying his childhood. the genral feel we got from the poem, is that the child's father has cheated on the child's mother, and it has caused arguments, conflict and an obvious devide in the family. a divide between adults and children. the poor child... gets negected.
we've managed to take such an inspiring poem and springboard into a different dimention. a different time of this poor child's life. a time where they've grown up, lonely, different their whole lives... and things aren't as they should be.
will our child find themselves? will they discover what's wrong with them? what happens if they try? does our child have anyone? do they know they're not normal? what is normal? what is sanity? what is friendship? what is their stable?
